Happy Monday, everyone! Hope your weekend was blessed! This week we are introducing a new topic, "Techniques, Tutorials and Tips", which will alternate with Product Reviews on Mondays. So many of Our Daily Bread designs' customers frequently ask, "How did you do that?", so we will be covering quite a few techniques in the future.
This week's Technique Tips tutorial is on the "Side Step Card", which is a creative evolution of the Stair Step Card. Now, don't get intimidated just yet.....it is pretty simple, pretty quick, and very easy to do. Just follow along and you'll be rushing to your studio to try it right away!
You will start out by cutting your 8-1/2 x 11 cardstock in half, so that it measures 8-1/2 x 5-1/2. The diagram below shows where to cut and where to score for folding.....the solid line is a cut line and the dotted lines are the score lines.
Place your cardstock in your personal cutter as shown with the 8 1/2 side up and down, with the inside edge at 3-1/2. You will cut only from the 1" line to the 6-3/8" line.....the center of the orange cutting blade points to the correct measurements on the ruler for you.
Next, using your Scor-Buddy, Scor-Pal, or personal cutter with your scoring blade, score the cardstock following the measurements on the instruction diagram. I flipped the cardstock upside down in order to begin my score line at the 1". Score each line only as far as your cut line, except for the 4 1/4 line which you will score all of the way down since it is the center fold of the card.
After cutting and scoring, this is what your cardstock should look like.....I placed the scoring tool through the cut line to make it more visible in the photo.
Carefully fold the scored lines as shown below. Note that the center score line is folded opposite from one side to the next.
Use your scoring tool (or bone folder) to get a crisp fold on each section.
Ta-da! Now wasn't that easy?! Now it's time to decorate any way you like!!!
To finish my "Side Step Card", I have used a new set by Our Daily Bread designs, called "Randi's Song". The Ecclesiastes verse fit perfectly on the tall section and the sentiment was perfect for the tallest step. The leaf was stamped twice, cut out, colored with sponges, and embellished with Ranger Glossy Accents to resemble dew droplets. The May Arts satin ribbon was tied with a Bow Easy, and there are several layers of "Irridescent Gold" Glimmer Mist for a shimmery finish.
Here is a close-up of the Glimmer Mist and Glossy Accents on the leaf....I love this stamp!!!
